Yes Bank was co-founded by Rana Kapoor, his brother-in-law, Ashok Kapur (Kapur) and their colleague in Grindlays Bank, Harkirat Singh, in 2003, with financial support from Rabobank. Started with the mission ‘to establish a high quality, customer centric, service driven, private Indian Bank catering to the future business of India,’ Yes Bank operated as a ‘Full Service Commercial Bank.’

The economic reforms undertaken by the Government of India (GoI) in the financial sector of the country in the late 1990s paved the way for the entry of private sector banks including Yes Bank.
